World conference and celebration for Survivors of Clergy Abuse Verona Italy 2014
Just back from the annual rally with the deaf and speech impaired survivors from the Provolo institute in Verona.
As always, I have a spring in my step after being with them again. They always lift my spirits!
Bizarre really considering the severity of the subject we are talking about, and the complete lack of justice that they have received. insulted and dismissed by that wretched church, and yet still dignified, brave and resilient.
I have always known that they would be key players in this movement against the injustices of the vatican, and I am never disappointed.every year they turn up, dress up and march from that hideous institute where they were incarcerated and cruelly abused, right into the beautiful arena in Verona where we make speeches and share stories and connections.
There had been a documentary made which is partly about that dreadful place, and the wonderful people who suffered there. this is the link.
I want every thinking person on the planet to see it and share their pain, but most of all to JOIN US!!! In this war against the cruel narcissistic monsters who not only allowed these and every other abuse to happen, but also lie and cover up the facts. March for A secular Europe London 2013 !
Great day at the Secular europe campaign and march on Saturday once again , with about three hundred like-minded, honorable, intelligent people who never fail to lift my spirits!
Lots of food for thought from the speakers, lots of humour, lots of inspiration.
There is no doubt that when we are talking about clergy abuse, Sharia law, genital mutilation, lack of gay and lesbian rights,violations of human rights, etc. They all have one very clear thing in common ,that is they are all a direct result of Power Abuse.
And power certainly does corrupt. In fact when there are set ups like the vatican, with it’s narcissism and corruption , and imbalance of power , then violations and abuses are almost inevitable!
And power is seductive, addictive, and just like heroin, it is very difficult to give up!
It is not something that these Power hungry abusers will ever give up voluntarily, in fact having had that level of power for so long, they will fight tooth and nail to hang on to it, with no thought for anyone who might get in their way.
Our fight against them is a big one, but it is a crucial one, and has to be fought on many fronts I think.
The main thing that I see is the imperitive NOT to feed it! The more we feed that corrupt imbalanced power,like all monsters, the bigger and uglier it gets.
Don’t feed their pockets by pouring money in to the church, Do not to allow any tax revenue to find it’s way to them.
Do Not feed their enormous egos by bowing and scraping to them ,or even listening to anything they have to say, do not give them that platform!
If there is something worth listening to - then decent honourable people, well away from the church, will be saying it!
Don’t allow them any priveleges at all! It is ludicrous to gain any advantage over others simply for believing in myths.
(In England we really do have to do something about the 26 non elected bishops in the House of Lords!)
Stop giving them so much bloody air time! every time that bigot in the vatican opens his mouth, someone is reporting it to us!
We don’t care!!!
It is an insult for him to try and score points by saying that “even Atheists might get to Heaven if god sees they have a conscience”! Arrogant bastard!
Atheists are Atheists because they have a conscience!
Don’t fall for the latest line that this is a new pope and “he is different” He is not!
They have simply swapped a rat faced snake for a smiley faced one - they are both equally slimey!
In this day and age, when the morality of these organisations is under scrutiny, and persistantly found lacking - do not allow them any hiding place.
Any honourable ethical, organisation would welcome scrutiny, they do not, because they have too much rot in their midst and too much to hide!
When one has a particular passion, a cause so near to our hearts, it is easy to think we have the monopoly on suffering, gatherings like these open our eyes to others causes, and allow us to share solidarity with so many others treated unjustly.
A privelege to be with them all!

Survivor- Prize-fighter
If one more person calls me a “High functioning survivor “ I will bloody scream!
It seems we are damned if we do, damned if we don’t!
If I continue to cry all over the place, hang my head in a “Diana like” pose, constantly talk about my “suffering” ,ask for unending sympathy, for allowances to be made for me, then I will always be seen as a “victim” and ripe for further abuses, either by being patronised or exploited, or by succumbing to mental illness, going back into active addiction, or suffering one of the many other unpleasant fates of people such as I.
And of course, I have been there, there was a time when I could hardly string a sentence together.
If however, I fight like a tiger, try and transform all that shit into manure, In order to make some sense out of something that cannot be changed,and use some of that manure in the support others, then I am a “high functioning survivor” who, it is further implied has “got over” what happened to her!
Well heres the THING!
These wounds NEVER heal, they may sometimes be on the surface, they may at other times be hidden, but wounds there are and they hurt like fuck!
It is bad enough that when ever I am asked questions they tend to be about the physical details of sexual abuse, rather than the severity of the damage caused, without my then having to wear it on my face all the time in order to be acknowledged , or receive compassion.
The facts are that childhood clergy abuse is FOR EVER.
It damages our brains, our metabolic and immune systems and shortens our life expectancy. It is passed on ,and further affects the next generation, and the next.
I myself have NINE life threatening ,or life limiting conditions, as a direct result of that damage, and that does not include any of the addictions or mental and emotional effects. But if I prefer to get on with what remains of my life rather than moan publicly all the time about what could have been, it appears that I don’t any longer warrant concern???
Those people with their opinions do not see me crying at seemingly unrelated things, they are not privy to my nightmares, they don’t feel my isolation or self loathing. They do not appreciate my need for constant vigilance to avert my descent back into addiction, they do not hear what my children may have to say about growing up with a damaged mother.They don’t witness my paranoia or fear.
It feels as if they would prefer us to stay in the problem, rather than to find some sort of solution.
Well to hell with that!
“High functioning Survivor “ should read “Survivor- Prize fighter”
which is a whole lot better than the alternative, which for me, I am quite sure, would be insanity or death.
